This is a new oil cap seal (metal cap) for Volkswagen Beetle models.
The oil cap seal is originally made from cork, though the cap will harden and crumble after many years. The sealing function will consequently be reduced and the risk that small parts of the cork will get into the motor oil is quite considerable.
